This is growing in my side-yard.  Or it was but it’s being taken over by honeysuckle.  It’s about 8 ft high and I brought some inside to see if it would bloom in water.
Anybody know what this is?

I’m pretty sure this is a Hibiscus.

Yes, as a native of Hawai’i, I can confirm this is a Hibiscus. The Hibiscus is also the state flower. I have seen them in the colors white, pink, red, yellow, orange, and lavender.

Thanks to both of you, but mom called and said it was Rose of Sharon, and googling that I’m almost positive it’s that.  Unless someone planted them in the weeds, I don’t think it would be hibiscus.  Such a lookalike though.
[EDIT: Rose of Sharon is a hibiscus.  Ta da!]
